As the weather is getting colder and you are shopping for fall and winter outfits, consider creating a capsule wardrobe that can help reduce spending. A Fall and Winter Capsule wardrobe is great for ensuring you are buying just what your child needs.
As a mom of two toddlers, I have found that it’s much easier to have a capsule wardrobe with outfits that can be worn interchangeably. This allows me to only buy a few clothes for them which offer a variety of outfits.

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of interchangeable clothing items that allow you to create a variety of outfits. You can choose to have a certain color scheme for your child’s wardrobe or buy different patterns and colors that work together.
The benefits of having a capsule wardrobe include reducing laundry, avoiding spending too much on clothes (guilty), and having less stress in the morning when it comes to picking out clothes for your child.
Since toddlers are still developing and have a tendency to outgrow their clothes quickly, I try not to buy too many clothes for them. At age 3, I have been buying 5T clothes which fit them best and can be worn for a few months.
When it comes to building a capsule wardrobe, here are the quantities I buy for each of my kids:
This list includes items from a variety of stores. Depending on your needs, you can shop at one store or a number of them. Each of the stores has some items I like, so I tend to shop around. I have included multiple versions of each item to give you choices.
For Fall and Winter, we’re replacing short sleeves with long sleeves. In this section, you will find a variety of everyday wear and dressy long sleeve shirts.

Fall is the season for sweaters and hoodies. As Christmas approaches, you may want to opt for cute holiday sweaters or more basic sweaters for everyday wear.

Pants pants pants… For this section, I categorized the pants into everyday pants my kids can wear to school or at home, jeans for cold weather, and dressier pants for special occasions.

In addition to coats and jackets, I like to include vests that can be worn over sweaters or long sleeves when the weather isn’t too cold. Jean jackets are perfect for Fall, and we’ll need some heavy-duty warmer jackets for the winter. Outings call for dressy coats.
