The new year is always brimming with excitement and anticipation for new opportunities, adventures, and relationships. There is a sense of hope and expectation for a better outcome than the previous year.

Some of us make new year’s resolutions that set the tone for the year and guide us in our habits. Health and happiness are some of everyone’s top goals, especially after a year filled with disappointments and unhealthy habits. Unfortunately, most people never follow through with their resolutions. Instead, they fall victim to unproductive habits they didn’t take the time to break.

If your goal for this year is to be happier and in better health than you were in 2022, then incorporating healthy habits will help you achieve your goal. In this post, I am sharing some healthy habits for your mind, body, and soul that will help you make the most of your year.

Healthy Habits To Improve Your Life in 2023

Healthy Habits for Your Body:

  1. Get enough sleep each night. It could be 6, 7, or 8 hours that do the trick for you. Whatever the quantity, make it a goal to get enough rest each night.
  2.  Go to bed at the same time each night. Doing this will train your body and mind to shut down naturally, so you don’t have to deal with sleepless nights.
  3.  Drink 8+ glasses of water each day. Get yourself a sturdy water bottle and fill it up each morning so you can consume more water daily.
  4.  Move your body for 30 minutes each day. Moving your body daily has many benefits including better sleep, improved bodily function, and better health.
  5.  Cook meals regularly. You don’t have to stop eating out but if you are trying to lose weight or be financially savvy, cooking more meals at home will help you achieve your goals.
  6.  Meal prep each week. Prepping your meals ahead of time will help you eat healthier and also minimize your food budget. Get a meal plan and stick to it.
  7.  Stretch often. Stretching can help loosen up tight muscles and help you recover faster after your workouts so make it a goal to stretch more this year.
  8.  Eat healthy breakfasts. If you’re not a breakfast person but want to change that this year, try meal prepping your breakfasts so you can still get in a healthy breakfast each day without much hustle.
  9.  Incorporate a self-care routine. Self-care can be beneficial, whether it’s as simple as taking a nap or listening to music that uplifts you.
  10.  Eat more whole foods. Ditch the processed foods this year and incorporate more whole foods into your diet. Foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, and whole grains will help you improve your overall health this year.
  11.  Do more exercises you enjoy. Don’t waste your money on expensive workout programs or gym memberships. Instead, choose an activity you enjoy and commit to doing it often this year. You’re more likely to get results doing this than forcing new workouts you don’t like.
  12.  Cut back on sugary drinks. Ditch coke and other sugary drinks and consume drinks with antioxidants or plain old water.
  13.  Get a physical done. Take the time to get your physical health evaluated to ensure you are in the best health.
  14.  Take multivitamins. If you don’t consume enough vitamins, consider adding supplements that contain the vitamins you need to your diet.

Healthy Habits for Your Mind:

  1. Practice mindfulness. Instead of rushing through your day mindlessly, slow down and be aware of what is happening around you.
  2.  Read more books. Whether you listen to audiobooks or read an actual book, set a goal to read more than you did last year.
  3.  Say ‘No” more. Say no to commitments you can’t be available for or activities that drain you or provide no benefit.
  4.  Ask for help. Don’t try to do everything yourself this year. If you have friends and family willing to help, ask them for assistance.
  5.  Limit Time on Social Media. Challenge yourself to be more present and to spend less time watching others live their lives online.
  6.  Learn a new language. Whether it’s Spanish, French, or another language you’ve wanted to learn, now is the time to start learning. Download an app like Duolingo or pay for courses to help you with your goal.
  7.  Take more breaks. Don’t get too consumed with hustle culture. Find time to rest and recharge often; this is both good for your body and your mental health.
  8.  Spend more time outdoors. Make time to be out in nature enjoying God’s creation. Listen to the birds sing, read a book under the tree, or take a walk by a lake–find activities in nature to do.
  9.  Find ways to cope with stress. Whether it’s exercising or doing an activity that calms you down, or maybe you need to reduce your workload or get help; whatever it is, find ways to cope with stress so that it doesn’t overwhelm you.
  10.  Journal. You can choose to journal your thoughts each day which frees your mind and also provides a record of some memories you can reflect on in the future.

Beneficial Routines to Start in 2023:

  1. Develop a morning routine so you can be more productive during your mornings and start the day off right.
  2.  Start a skincare routine to take better care of your skin.
  3.  Create a plan to combat stress and anxiety.
  4.  Incorporate an evening routine that will help you unwind and get better sleep.
  5.  Work on a self-care/pamper routine that will help you prioritize hobbies and activities you enjoy.
  6.  Maybe even a “maintenance routine” which details when you’ll get your nails, hair, and eyebrows done and how often.

Final Thoughts…

Resolutions are not for everyone but if you want your year to be different from last year, then you have to take steps to ensure your goals become a reality. If taking care of your health is a priority this year then implementing some or all of these resolutions will help you reach your goals.
